San Antonio – A Magnet for Cyber Security Advancement

Cyber Security concerns are top of mind for the three distinguished San Antonio based panelists presenting Thursday, November 7th at 5:00 p.m..

Join us to learn more about how San Antonio has become ‘Cyber City’.

Academia, Industry and Military converge and collaborate in San Antonio on the critical topic of Cyber Security advancements. From UTSA to Port San Antonio to Lackland Air Force base, national and international organizations work to combat this growing threat.

How will we fill the 46,000 open positions in Texas and the 3.5 million open positions in cybersecurity and data science globally? UTSA has been designated as a Center for Academic Excellence by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security in the areas of Education, Operations and Research and is one of less than 10 institutions in the nation to achieve all three designations. Dr. Nicole Beebe is Melvin Lachman Endowed Chair and Professor of Cyber Security for UTSA and was named by Texas Monthly as one of “15 Innovators Reshaping Texas”.

The Alamo City is home to one of the world's largest and fastest-growing concentrations of national and international cybersecurity experts and approximately 2,000 of those industry professionals are based at Port San Antonio. The Port’s President and CEO Jim Perschbach will discuss how innovators defend against threats that target the networks and digital assets that, in an increasingly connected world, power key sectors of America’s economy such as national defense, aerospace, manufacturing, power distribution, biomedicine, financial services and telecommunications.

Maj. Gen. Larry R. Broadwell is the Deputy Commander, Sixteenth Air Force (Air Forces Cyber), Joint Base Lackland. Air Forces Cyber focuses on information warfare in the modern age, which requires integrating Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance, Cyber Operations, Electromagnetic Warfare, Weather, Public Affairs, and Information Operations capabilities. 16th Air Force ensures that our Air Force and Nation are fast, resilient, and fully integrated in competition, crisis, and conflict. Major General Broadwell has been awarded, Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit with three oak leaf clusters, Bronze Star Medal, and several other decorations.
