Don retired from the USAF in August 2005 as the Commander, Air Education and Training Command, Randolph AFB, TX. During his 36-year career, he held numerous command and high-level staff positions. He was the Vice Commander of both Air Combat Command and the Air Force Space Command. He served tours as the Director, Air Expeditionary Force Implementation, the most expansive reorganization of the AF in recent history; served as a member of the U.S. House Armed Services Committee, Panel on Professional Military Education; and as the Director, U.S. Senate Liaison Office. He also commanded a flying training wing and two space wings.
Since retirement, Don has been serving as an independent director on the boards of the Crane Corporation, USAA Federal Savings Bank, and Hawken Beechcraft Aircraft Co. and also serves as a trustee for Southwest Research Institute and United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County. Additionally, he is a consultant for Lockheed-Martin Corporation.
