What is the Masters Leadership Program of San Antonio?

The Masters Leadership Program (MLP) is an opportunity for San Antonio's best and brightest business executives and other community leaders to stay involved in, and informed about, the issues and challenges facing our city.

The program will consist of 12 all-day sessions, each focusing on a different aspect of the community, as well as presentations, panel discussions, on-site visits and field trips. Sessions are planned and hosted by the Board of Directors.

Run under the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County umbrella, the MLP’s goal is to translate the knowledge gained from the program into a pool of graduates available to volunteer their leadership and good counsel as advisors on the boards of our community’s most important and respected agencies and public commissions.

Who are the speakers ?

The program speakers will be prominent regional and local experts who will share their perspectives and insights on important current issues and engage in lively question and answer dialogue with the participants.

What are the benefits of participating?

Within a collegial atmosphere, you will gain an in-depth understanding of the political, cultural, civic and governmental fabric of our county and establish important networking contacts. You will become a prime candidate for appointment to committees, boards and commissions. After graduation, you will be invited to join the Masters Leadership Alumni Association, that will offer opportunities to attend special educational programs featuring outstanding speakers, as well as social activities that will further expand networking possibilities and continue class friendships.

Am I eligible for the progam?

Individuals considering applying to the program should be proven leaders in their field of endeavor - whether in the profit or nonprofit sectors - who are now interested in applying their skills and experience to community service. Most candidates will have achieved a position of leadership and responsibility and a strong track record of accomplishment. Whether retired, semi-retired or still in the workplace, candidates should have the time and desire to give something back to the community.

After graduation, what is expected of me?

At the conclusion of the program, you will be asked to work with members of your class to plan one of the sessions for the following year's class. You will also be actively encouraged to use your new knowledge to serve on the boards of nonprofit organizations and governmental commissions in the community. The Masters Leadership Program will assist you in matching your skills, talents and interests to specific community needs and organizations.
